Three advantages of laminate flooring

Three advantages of laminate flooring

If you long for wood but your budget says "no," consider laminate flooring. It's attractive, affordable, and keeps improving with new features, better graphics, and seaming.

Here are three reasons why it may be right for you.

Stylish for any decor

A few years ago, I attended a holiday celebration. The homeowner had what I thought were wood floors. However, she told me it was actually laminate flooring.

These floors come in many colors and designs. Micro beveling and embossing add depth and dimension.

Embossing enables manufacturers to create textured looks. These include wire-brushed, hand-scraped, distressed, and embossed-in-register (EIR).

No more worries about spills

Waterproof laminate flooring is the "new sheriff in town." The original laminate has wood in the composition.

As you probably know, water and wood don't mix. So, it was often avoided for installation in wet spaces like the kitchen and bath.

This new version features a non-wood construction, making it ideal for any room in the house. Original laminate, however, is still very actively marketed, so specify which one you want.

Durability

Laminate's tough enough to withstand the heaviest wear–from kids, pets, and foot traffic. Depending on the quality and proper care, it can last up to 25 years.

Ask about thickness and the AC Rating. The best laminate flooring is at least 8 mm or above in thickness.

AC (Abrasion Criteria) Ratings determine a laminate product's dent resistance. For residential use, select one with an AC-3 or AC-4 rating.
